Most of the people I work with are one-person or two-person businesses: trades, therapists, consultants, shops. They are good at the thing they do and would rather not spend Sunday night with a shoebox of receipts.

Your receipts, invoices and bank feed reconciled every month, so the picture is always current rather than rebuilt in a panic each January.

VAT returns

from £75/qtr

Prepared, checked with you, and filed under Making Tax Digital. I watch the threshold too, so registration never sneaks up on you.

Self-assessment

from £250

Your personal tax return, done early rather than in the last week of January. You see the figure owed with time left to plan for it.

Payroll

from £6/payslip

Payslips, RTI submissions and pension filings run on the same day each month, including the years where nothing changes at all.

Frequently asked questions

Are you an accountant?
No, and it is worth being clear about the difference. I keep your records straight through the year, handle VAT, payroll and self-assessment, and make sure nothing is filed late. Statutory year-end accounts for a limited company are an accountant's job. I work alongside yours, or can introduce you to one.
My books are a mess and I am behind. Is that a problem?
It is genuinely the most common reason people call me, and it is fixable. I will look at what state things are in, tell you what it will cost to bring up to date, and get on with it. Nobody gets a lecture about the shoebox.
Do I have to switch software?
Only if the one you are on is actively getting in your way. I work in Xero and QuickBooks most often, and I can pick up a spreadsheet if that is genuinely what suits your size of business.
How do you charge?
A fixed monthly fee for ongoing work, agreed before I start, so the bill is the same every month and does not move because a month was busy. One-off pieces are quoted up front.
Do we have to meet in person?
Not unless you want to. Most of my clients I see once or twice a year and speak to by phone or email in between. If you are local to Lichfield and would rather sit down with someone, that is easy to arrange.
